Even under ideal circumstances, divorce rarely is an easy process for anyone. If your soon-to-be ex-spouse wants to make your life miserable, though, you can expect your divorce to be one of the more trying times of your life. This might be especially true if your husband or wife is angry.

According to Psychology Today, anger is a type of intense attachment, making it somewhat similar to love. Just as love can make a person behave strangely, some actions a person takes when angry can be difficult to understand. Consequently, it may make sense for you to understand how your angry spouse can unnecessarily complicate your divorce.

Refusing to communicate

There are many tasks to accomplish when any couple wraps up a marriage, including dividing marital property. Many couples work together to address these matters through negotiation, of course. If your spouse is overly angry with you, however, he or she may not be willing to communicate with you. This can make ending your marriage exceedingly difficult.

Seeking revenge

Unfortunately, it is not uncommon for some divorcing spouses to seek revenge. If your husband or wife wants to punish you, he or she might try to make embarrassing matters public. Moreover, your spouse might be able to retaliate against you by driving up your legal bills. As a result, your future ex’s uncontrolled anger; and temper tantrums can be costly for you.

If your spouse is furious with you, you might not be able to do much about his or her emotional response. Ultimately, though, you should take steps to prepare yourself mentally prior to divorcing an angry spouse.
